Professor David Wheeler
Clinical trials in CKD
I am involved in the planning and operationalisation of a number of randomised controlled trials assessing treatments to slow progression of chronic kidney disease and manage complications. Recent research has focussed on the use of SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with both diabetic and non-diabetic chronic kidney disease. I am currently UK Chief Investigator for a trial assessing optimal dialysis sodium concentration in haemodialysis patients (RESOLVE-UK study). I am consultant lead for the clinical research delivery team at the Royal Free. There are opportunities for trainees to engage in ongoing studies through the NIHR Associate Principle Investigator scheme.
