Professor Daniel Gale

Genomics (Lead)

Daniel Gale holds the St Peter’s Chair of Nephrology at University College London and runs the North/Central London renal genetics service at the Royal Free Hospital. He is clinical lead for rare diseases at the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub and in 2018 spent a period as Expert-in-Residence for the Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance. He also directs the UK Rare Renal Disease Registry (RaDaR) that includes over 28,000 patients with rare kidney diseases recruited at over 100 UK hospitals. Scientific achievements include discovery of the diseases HIF2α erythrocytosis with pulmonary hypertension, which results from defective oxygen sensing, and CFHR5 nephropathy, which is endemic in Cypriots.

His work focuses on the use of in vitro, in vivo and bioinformatic methods to study the mechanisms by which genetic variation contributes to disease, including the development of potential novel therapies.
